River dispute ends in charges.

A 24 year old Orangeville man is facing criminal charges after Port Hope Police were called to a dispute on the Ganaraska River. On the 19^th of September 2019 shortly before 4:00pm Police attended the Rover in the Queen St and Robertson St area and spoke with the complainant. Information was received that this man accused another man of “snagging” fish. A dispute took place where the man grabbed the other man’s fishing rod and broke it in half over his knee. He then pushed the man backwards into the river. Tyler Ketchabaw is charged with common assault and mischief. He appears in court later in October.

Thefts from unlocked vehicles.

On the 19^th of September Port Hope Police responded to several thefts from unlocked vehicles on Brown Street. All incidents are believed to have occurred over night the 18/19 of September. In one incident the complainant left his wallet in the vehicle and advised he forgot to lock it. He lost $340.00. Other incidents vehicles were searched and smaller amounts of change were taken. On complainant reported the steering column was taken apart in an attempt to steal the vehicle.  Port Hope Police continue to remind residence to lock their vehicles when not in use and particularly at night. Break and Enter.

Port Hope Police are investigating a break and enter reported on the 20^th of September. A woman who lives in the Hope St North area reported at about 9:00am she left her house to do an errand and when she returned she noted the back door open. She went inside and surprised a man who was in the basement. The man fled the area. Police attended and checked the area for the man. He is described as male 6 foot tall wearing grey sweat shirt and blue jeans said to be worn out.  It is believed the man entered the residence through an unlocked door. Port Hope Police remind residents to lock their doors when they leave the residence. Police also feel it is a good idea to lock the doors when in the back yard and away from monitoring front entrances.  Nothing was reported missing from this incident.
