Media Release - February 13, 2024

 

Impaired Driver

On February 10, 2024, a 35-year-old Colborne male was arrested and charged with impaired driving after police were dispatched to a parked vehicle in a gas station parking lot with an unconscious male inside.

When officers arrived, they observed the vehicle and attempted to wake the driver. The vehicle had damage to the passenger front side and appeared to have hit the fence to which it was next. The male came to, exited the vehicle, and showed obvious signs of impairment. The male was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

 

Impaired Driver

A 58-year-old Newcastle male was arrested in charged with impaired driving and other charges after he was pulled over for expired validation tags.

The male was driving in the area of Peter St. and King St. in Port Hope on February 12, 2024, when he was pulled over by a Port Hope Police officer for an expired tag.  The officer immediately smelled the odour of alcohol on the male’s breath and noticed an open case of beer in the back seat.  The male failed to present a valid permit of insurance for the vehicle. The male was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)
  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs
  • Drive Motor Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit HTA
  • Fail To Surrender Insurance Card
  • Fail To Surrender Permit For Motor Vehicle HTA
  • Drive Motor Vehicle With Liquor Readily Available

He is scheduled for a court date on March 13, 2024, to answer to his charges.

Police are reminding the public of the critical importance of avoiding alcohol consumption before operating a vehicle, safeguarding both your own safety and the well-being of others on the road.
