Operation Impact

Operation Impact is an awareness campaign that took place over the Thanksgiving weekend. The campaign focused on education and enforcement of impaired driving due to drugs and or alcohol, fatigue, aggressive driving, distracted driving, child car seats, and seat belts. Port Hope Police conducted various ride programs over the Thanksgiving weekend, to check for the above mentioned offenses. We would like to thank the residents of Port Hope for the cooperation shown to our officers during the campaign. 

Domestic Assault

On Tuesday October 5, 2021, in the early morning, police were dispatched to the downtown area in Port Hope in response to a report of a domestic assault.

As a result of the investigation, a Port Hope man was charged with the following offences:

1. Assault- Spousal contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code of Canada

2. Assault cause bodily harm- choke suffocate or strangle contrary to 267(c) of the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was held for a Show Cause Hearing.

The accused person's name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim. 

Impaired Driving

On October 17, 2021, in the early morning, police were dispatched to Victoria Street for an unknown disturbance. 

Police arrived on scene and observe a group of people who had been drinking and had been involved in an altercation. Police located a male who had left the scene driving a motor vehicle. 

As a result of the police investigation 30-year-old Campbellcroft resident, Tanner FOSTER, was charged with the following offences:

1. Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

2. Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada. 

FOSTER was released from custody on an Undertaking with a future court date. 

Port Hope Police want to encourage the public to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911. Please plan a head for a safe way to get home, by calling a cab, friend or relative, or by a designated sober driver.
