Stunt Driving
Driver charged with Stunt Driving and Fail to Surrender Driver's License.
On the morning of September 9, 2021, while on foot patrol downtown Walton Street, Port Hope Police Officers observed a motor vehicle driving on Queen Street, and turned North onto Walton Street, squealing tires. Officers observed the same vehicle go around another vehicle on Walton Street at Ontario Street, again squealing tires.
Officers located vehicle shortly after and as a result of the investigation, 21-year-old male of Whitby was charged with the following:
1. Drive motor vehicle-perform stunt contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
2. Driver fail to surrender license contrary to section 33(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The driver was issued a 7 day License Suspension, and a 7 day Vehicle Impoundment.
The Port Hope Police Service urge drivers to slow down and be alert. By slowing down will help reduce the chance of causing a collision that could seriously injure someone. On September 12, 2021, Driver's License Suspension for Racing/Stunt/Contest driving offenses, will increase from 7-day Driver's License Suspension to 30-day Driver's License Suspension. Vehicle impoundment for Racing/Stunt/Contest driving offenses, will increase from 7-day Vehicle Impoundment, to 14-day Vehicle Impoundment.
