Man charged with stunt driving.
A 40 year old Northumberland County area man is facing a charge stunt driving after he was detected driving in excess of 50 kmh over the speed limit on Shuter Street in Port Hope yesterday. Police were conducting radar in the area as a result complaints of vehicles speeding. The man was observed driving his white SUV in access of the speed limit shortly after 8:00am. He is charged with driving a motor vehicle-perform stunt and will appear in court later in July. His vehicle was impounded.
Man charged with violating bail conditions.
A 38 year old man is in custody after Port Hope Police found him breaching his bail conditions. The man was out of custody awaiting disposition on domestic assault charges. He had conditions to remain away and hold no communication with the victim of these alleged assaults. On the 14th of May shortly after 2:00am Port Hope Police officers responded to a complaint of someone yelling for “help” at central Port Hope area apartment building. When officers arrived on scene they attended the apartment where the person was heard yelling from. Officers entered the apartment to check on the wellbeing and located the accused male hiding in a closet the other person in the apartment was the victim of the original domestic dispute. The accused was taken into custody and is charged with failing to abide by the conditions of an undertaking and breaching his probation. No names will be released to protect the identity of the victim.
Man seriously injured after he ran into a passing train.
A Durham Region man is in hospital after ran into a train that was passing the Hope Street south rail way crossing Wednesday evening. Emergency Services responded to the tracks by Esco shortly before 9:00pm. The man was rushed to Northumberland Hills Hospital and then later airlifted to Toronto with undisclosed injuries. Port Hope Police are continuing the investigation.

Municipal Land Use Restrictions Lifted
Residents are advised that the land use restrictions bordering the Ganaraska River will be lifted as of Wednesday, May 13, 2020. Access to municipally owned green spaces, trails and paths along the River will be open to the public for pass-through use only. Please note that all conservation areas north of Molson Street remain closed at this time, per the direction of the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority.
Restrictions to beaches in the Municipality will also be lifted as of Wednesday, May 13, 2020. Individuals will be permitted to use East Beach and West Beach as additional pass-through areas.
The Municipality would like to thank residents for their patience and diligence while these municipal lands were closed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
As the land use bans are lifted, residents are reminded that physical distancing measures remain in effect, and individuals must continue to comply with the Provincial guidelines to stay a distance of two metres apart. Additionally, residents must not loiter or gather in any public space. A ban on group gatherings of more than five people is still in effect, by Provincial Order. Residents who do not comply with these regulations may face fines.
