Internet Fraud Scam

Port Hope Police are warning residence to be aware of an internet fraud scam that has surfaced in Port Hope. This scam usually involves the buy and sell web site “KIJIJI”. In October a Port Hope resident listed a couch for sale. She was contacted via email and a cheque for $2,600.00 was sent to her.  The person(s) suggested she cash the cheque, keep the funds for the couch and send the balance to a shipping agency in Paris. The woman did not cash the cheque.   Police warn residents that use this web site to sell merchandise to be cautious of such a scam. There have been several reported to police over the last year.
